UPDATED How to do GPU Bitcoin Mining on a Mac Easily

This video will show you how to easily mine bitcoins using the GPU on your Apple laptop or desktop using guiminer.

Guiminer for Mac can be downloaded here: https://github.com/downloads/pletoss/poclbm/guiminer-poclbm-macosx.dmg

The website for the mining pool is mining.bitcoin.cz. They are really good, and I have received payments from them, so they are 100% trustworthy.

First, setup an account on a mining website (such as slush, but any can be used). Then, download guiminer for Mac from the link above.

Once Guiminer is downloaded, just double click on the .dmg. This will mount the dmg on your desktop, which will basically look like a pen drive. If you open up the mounted folder, then you will see the guiminer application inside. You CANNOT run it from here. Drag it to your desktop or to your applications folder.

Double click on the guiminer app after you have moved it, and wait a minute while it starts up.

When guiminer is started up, go to file, new miner, and select opencl. Then name it anything and hit ok.

Click on the tab at the top of guiminer for the miner you just created. Then click on the dropdown box and find the mining pool that you signed up for (slush is shown in the video).

Then, input your username and password for the miner.

Then select the hardware that you want to mine with. In the dropdown list at the bottom you will probably see your video card and processor. Your video card is usually going to be a lot faster than your processor, so I would recommend using that.

After that, just hit start mining and you’re all finished.

How to Remove a Hard Drive From a Laptop Computer

This is a general video on how to remove the hard drive from a laptop computer. These steps may be a bit, and in some cases totally different, than what you have to do to get your hard drive out. But the general idea is the same, so if you follow these steps, you will be able to replace your hard drive.

First, get a service manual for your laptop. Some are very easy to find, others extremely difficult. You should be able to find a free copy of your somewhere around the internet though. Next, decide if you want to use an ESD strap or not. I have never used one and have never had a problem, but you could be the one in a million where it’s an issue. So if you want to live dangerously, just touch something metal to discharge your static before working on the laptop, and wear shoes. Next, shut down the laptop and remove all power sources from it. This includes the Wall plug, and the battery.

After this, it is time to disassemble the laptop to get to the hard drive. This can include several different methods. The easiest method is the one shown in the video where the hard drive can be found under the covers on the bottom of the laptop. Unfortunately, not all laptops are made like this. The next “class” is about as easy as the covers, where the laptop is in a slide out tray on the side of the laptop. Basically there will be 2-4 screws that you will have to remove, and then a tray will slide out from the side that has the hard drive in it. This is common on a few laptops, like Thinkpad/Lenovo T40, T42, etc, and some Dells like the XPS M1530 and XPS M1330. The next “class” would be having to remove the whole bottom to get to the hard drive. A good example of this is the 2011 Macbook Pros, where you have to take out 6 screws, and then the entire bottom comes out. Another version is where you’ll have to take all the screws out of the bottom, then take the keyboard out, then remove screws from under the keyboard, and then separate the laptop into 2 halves. This is the worst version to deal with, and can be seen on quite a few Acer models, older HP’s, and many Netbooks.

So once you know how you need to get to the hard drive, you can proceed with taking it apart. Make sure you have a system for keeping track of which screws go where. One method I use is taking a video of the disassembly process that I can rewatch to put it back together. Another method is to draw a rough picture of the laptop and put double sided tape over it. Then whenever you take a screw out, stick it on the picture where it goes.

So now you can start taking out the screws. Make sure to apply a decent amount of direct downward force, but not enough to break the plastic. If you try to apply pressure at an angle, or don’t use enough pressure, then you are much more likely to strip the screw and will create huge problems for yourself.

Some screws need to be taken out of the laptop entirely, while other screws stay embedded in the plastic. So if a screw seems stuck, don’t get out the needlenose and rail on it. Usually the trick is that if it’s difficult to get out, it’s supposed to stay in.

After you have taken out the screws needed to get to the hard drive (you may have to repeat this step and the last multiple times if you laptop has layers to go through) pull on the plastic covering gently to remove it. Some of the plastic coverings will have clips that need to be gently removed, so apply a little force to stuck areas to test if there are clips, but generally if the plastic is not coming apart easily, it’s either not meant to come apart, or you forgot to take out a screw.

At this point you will see all the internal components of the laptop. The motherboard is the big green circuit board with everything plugging in to it, the ram will be the small sticks about 3 inches long, and the hard drive should be a 2.5″ wide box that looks like what I show in the video. The hard drive is what interests you in this case, and you should see that the hard drive is plugged into the motherboard by an IDE or Sata connection (picture below). You have to be careful with both of these connections, but IDE especilly because there are pins that can be bent.

In both cases, you will probably have to remove screws that hold the hard drive in place. Sometimes the hard drives are held in place by screws that are in the cover you take off, so it can just slide out when you take off the cover, but in other cases there are as many as 4 screws holding it down (shown in the video).

Make sure to not put to much pressure on the hard drive, and only touch the sides when possible. Hard drives hold all of your important data, and are very fragile and can be destroyed by dropping or excessive force.

Once you remove those screws generally you need to slide the hard drive horizontally away from the connector. If you just yank straight up, without it being free of the connector, you can tear the connector right off the motherboard and then have to replace your motherboard. The hard drive should come out very easily once you have removed the screws and slid it free of the connector, so if it is difficult coming out, double check you removed all the screws and are completely clear of the connector.

Once you have the hard drive out, then you will usually notice that is has a piece of metal around it. This is known as the hard drive caddy, and simply serves as an adapted to put the hard drive into before it is put into the laptop.

If you are replacing the hard drive, take the caddy off and put it on the new hard drive. Make sure to put the hard drive in the correct orientation so that it will be able to slide into the connector when it is on the motherboard.

Once you have the new hard drive in the caddy and slid onto the connector, you can do all the steps in reverse order to get your laptop back together. Make sure to put the screws back in reverse order, as some screws taken out in the beginning may need other parts put back on before they get screwed in.

How to get free Bitcoins on an Android Phone or Tablet

This video will show you how to get free bitcoins on any device running Android such as phones and tablets. Both these things can be done in just a few minutes a day, and can add up to decent bitcoins over time. Both the apps are free, and from experience they are currently completely legitimate.

The first app, Bitcoin Tapper, pays out a small amount of bitcoins when you open the app and tap the button. You can do this once every 24 hours. The app adds anywhere from .001 to .000001 bitcoins per tap, so it can occasionally be really worth it, or it can be kind of useless if you get the lowest end. But it only takes a couple seconds to do, and can’t hurt. Once your total reaches over .012 bitcoins, you can request a payout. I have gotten a payout, so I know it is legitimate.

The other app, Get Free Bitcoins, basically links you to all the online bitcoin faucets so you can easily use them on your phone. You basically enter your bitcoin address into the app, and then it automatically pastes your address into most of the sites when you open them up, and you can paste it into the ones it doesn’t.

Then you can choose the options you want to use to earn bitcoins. You can choose to complete captchas at bitcoin faucets, visit websites for bitcoins, or watch videos for bitcoins. All the options work well, and I have personally received payouts so I know it works.

At the end I also explain the option of bitcoin mining on android. I have personally only used it very little, and it overheated my phone without producing many hashes. If you want to try it out you can, as there are a couple of paid apps for mining, but I wouldn’t reccomend it because you will never earn back the money the app costs, and it can damage your phone.

How to Get More Views on Youtube Videos

This video will show you how to get more views on your Youtube videos, for free. What I show you are just simple tips that will get your content out there, and help people find your videos.

Most of the tips in this video are based off of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) which just means that it makes it easier for people to find your videos on the internet, and then click on them once they find them.

Good Content for the Youtube Video

The most important aspect is your content. If you have good content, you will get more views over time. If you have bad content, then it is very unlikely your video will do well, and will get less views over time as it gets downvoted. Your biggest asset will be people upvoting your content and sharing it with others because it is good. To make better content, just try to always improve. It will take a while before you get the hang of it, and you’ll have to try a lot of different things. Just for example, I started making my videos with a cheap camera, and with Camstudio for desktop recording. I found that the videos weren’t turning out at the quality I would like, and you can see this in some of my earlier videos. Later, I started using Camtasia Studio (a professional software for recording the desktop), and I got a Canon T4i to record my Youtube videos. The increase in quality is huge, and has caused me to get a lot more views. An example of a Youtube video with the Canon T4i is my Google Nexus 4 Review here:

The next most important aspect is your title. Basically word your title based on how you want people to find your video. So if your video is on how to help people get more views on Youtube, then you’ll want to use the keywords Views, and Youtube especially in your title. Also don’t make it to specific or too broad. You want the people who want to see your video to find it, but you don’t want people who don’t want to see your content be tricked into watching it. Good traffic will cause more good traffic to come, while bad traffic will downvote your content and make it harder to find for good traffic.

The next most important thing is your thumbnail. This picture can really describe to people the content and quality of your video, so always upload a relevant and high quality picture if one of the random thumbnails for the video isn’t good enough.

How to use Youtube Tags

Tags are also super important, because these determine where your video shows up in the sidebar for related videos. THis can get you a huge amount of traffic, especially if you have a good title. I get around 40% of my traffic from being in the related videos. Don’t just put random tags, becuase this could actually hurt you by only putting you in the related column on videos you’re not related to, making it so people who are viewing the current video aren’t interested in yours. You want to show up in the sidebar of videos where people are interested in your video, so make sure to use relevant tags. Just for example, if you are making a video about how to do something with computers, then put tags in the tag box like Windows, Linux, Mac, Desktop, Video, Windows 8, Download, Application, and a lot of others like this. They don’t necessarilly have to be exactly what’s in your video, just have to be tags that are related to things that people who would watch your video would be interested in.

How to Use Youtube Video Annotations

You can also use annotations and video links to get more traffic. If you put your links to your videos around on relevant websites, or in the description of the video, it’s another way for traffic to find your videos.

Annotations can also be helpful, which are basically just links that are on your video, that go to other videos. And if your content is high quality, traffic will want to watch other videos of yours.

How to find Public Domain pictures on Google Image Search

This video will show you how to find public domain pictures in a google image search. This will make it so Google only shows you pictures that you can legally reuse on your website or in really anything else.

Step 1: Go to google, type in the image you’re searching for, and click on images.

Step 2: Select the setting next to safesearch that looks like a little cog wheel. This will bring up a menu with sevaral options. Choose the option for advanced search, as shown in the picture below.

Step 3: At the bottom of the advanced search window, there is a Usage Rights dropdown box. Select this box, and choose the usage rights option that you are looking for. All the options are explained in detail below. Also, the picture below shows the Usage Rights box I was talking about.

There are a few options for the public domain pictures.

Free to use or share: This setting allows you to use the pictures and share them with others, as long as you don’t modify them, or use them in a commercial application, such as on you website with ads.

Free to use or share, even commerically: This setting will show you picturest that you can use to make money, but you still can’t modify them.

Free to use share or modify: The images you can share with others, and use them in things like reports, and slideshows, and even modify them for these applications, but they can not be used for commerical gain.

Free to use, share or modify, even commercially: These images can be used in any application, even ones that make money, and can even be modified for use in those situations.

In all of these, even when an image is in the Public domain to modify and use commercially, give credit to the original authors and contributors.

How to find the IP address of your Computer and Router on Windows

This article and video will show you how to find the IP address of your computer on the LAN (Local Area Network), the router on the LAN, and the IP address of the computer according to the internet. Your local address is different than your internet address, because your local address is used by your internal network to communicate with other loacl devices, while your internet IP is the address that your network uses to communicate with other devices over the internet. All the devices on your network (unless you have a a weird setup where you have static IP’s from you Internet Service Provider which then you wouldn’t need this guide) will share the same internet IP address, while each device will have a different IP on the local network. A usual local network IP adress would be something like 192.168.1.16, while a usual internet IP address will be something like 68.115.240.26.

Step One: Open the command prompt

On Windows 7, hit start and then tpe CMD in the search bar at the bottom of the start menu. Then right click on the CMD option that pops up, and click “Run as Administrator”. To open the Command Prompt in Windows 8 as Administrator, move your mouse in to the top right corner of the screen, and click the search option that pops up. Type CMD into the search box, and click apps if nothing shows up. When the CMD shows up, right click on it, and click the option at the bottom that says “Run as Administrator”. In Windows XP, click the start menu, then click RUN, and type cmd, and then hit enter. With any of these, a black box will pop up as shown in the next picture. Step Two: Run the ipconfig command

In the command prompt that you have open (the black box with a blinking cursor) type ipconfig, and then hit enter. (This stands for Internet Protocol Configuration). This will put a bunch of text in the command prompt, but you’ll be interested in a few numbers towards the top. As pointed out in the picture below, the IPV4 Address is the value that’s your local address. This will be in the format of x.x.x.x (ex 192.168.1.15). That value is the address of your local laptop on the network. The address below that is listed as Default Gateway is the address of the device you are connected to the internet through. This could be the switch before your router, or other devices, but in the average household setup, this is going to be your wireless router if you are connected to that with your laptop, or will be your modem’s address if it has built in wireless, or if you are wired directly into the modem.

Step Three: Go to http://www.ipchicken.com to view your internet IP address.

The step is super easy, all you have to do is visit the web page, and your IP address according to the internet will be shown right in the middle, shown in the picture below. This is the address you local network uses for NAT, and this address can be used to connect to your computer over the internet if you have settings set up correctly such as port forwarding.

How to install and use SpeechJammer on Windows 8

This video will show you how to download SpeechJammer on Windows. This will work on all the Windows versions (Windows 8, Windows 7, Vista, XP), and is entirely free. It’s a quick download, but you may have to install Microsoft DirectX if you don’t already have it installed, and .Net 3.5. After that, Download SpeechJammerLite from the link below.

The first page seen in the video is: https://sites.google.com/site/qurihara/top-english/speechjammer/lt this site seems to be made by the creators of the program, so some of it is in Chinese, but the landing page is in English. The download link for SpeechJammerLite is right there, as well as the link for DirectX.

The direct link for DirectX is: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109

The link to download .Net is: www.ninite.com simply choose .Net from the checkmarks, then hit get installer. Download the installer, and run it. If you don’t have the newest .Net installed, it will automatically download and install it, and if you do have the newest, it will just skiip it and say up to date. You can just run the Speech Jammer without this step, and it will tell you if you need .NET, but you can run this just in case.

After you have DirectX and .Net installed, you can download the SpeechJammerLite file. This will download as a .zip file, so right click on it and extract it, and then open the folder that you extracted. In this you will find SpeechJammerLite.exe, which you can double click on to run.

Once SpeechJammerLite opens, select which microphone to use at the bottom left. Next, make sure your volume is all the way up so that you cant hear yourself over the sound from the headphones (works best with noise cancelling headphones). Then hit start jamming and just try to talk.

It affects some people less and others more, and works much better when you can’t hear yourself speak. A great video showing how much SpeechJammer can affect you is this gun review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oU9EGeMP5n4 and I’ll make a demonstration video with it eventually.

A site that gets a lot of hits can make large amounts of money from these methods, and they are all easy enough for anyone to do.

How to take a screenshot in Windows 8

This is a short video on how to take a screen capture in Windows 8. There are three methods I show, using the Windows key with the print screen button, using the print screen button and saving with paint, and using the Windows Snip tool. All of the methods will work, it just depends on the situation you need it for. If you want to take a screenshot on Windows XP, use Option 3 that I have listed below.

Option 1: If you just want to save the screenshot without editing it, then follow these steps. These will only work in Windows 8, while the other ways will work in Windows 7 or 8.

Step 1: Hold down the windows key. It should be in between the fn and alt keys. (if you just tap it once it’s the button that brings up the start menu)

Step 2: while holding down the Windows button, tap the printscreen button. This may be labeled a PrntScr, PrintSCR, or prtscr. It should be in the upper right of the keyboard above the backspace key.

Step 3: The screenshot will be saved as soon as you hit the print screen button. The file will be saved in a screenshots folder in your Pictures folder. The path for it would be C:\Users\yourusername\Pictures\Screenshots.

Step 4: If you want to edit the file, just open it with Microsoft Paint or any other photo editing software (Photoshop, Gimp, Paint.Net), edit it, and save it. The file can also be moved to wherever you want to store it.

 

Option 2: You can use the Windows Snip tool (Snipping Tool) as well, and this allows you to take a screenshots of sections of the computer screen rather than the whole things. The steps for this are very easy as well.

Step 1: In Windows 7 bring up the start menu and type snip in the search at the bottom, and then click on the Snipping Tool option that comes up at the top. In Windows 8 move your mouse to the top right corner of the screen, and on the menu that pops out, click the search option. Then in the search box, type snip, and click on the Snipping Tool option that pops up.

Step 2: On the snip tool that pops up, clcik the new option.

Step 3: Drag the box from the snip tool around the area you want to capture, and it will screen cap that area automatically. There are several more options in the drop down menu that is attached to the New button, such as capture full screen or capture window.

Step 4: In the window that appears after the screen capture, choose save. By default it will suggest saving it as a .png, but you can save it as several other image types by choosing the dropdown box at the bottom, and then selecting the one you want (jpeg, or gif).

 

Option 3: If you are in Windows XP, or want to edit the screen capture before you save it, use this method.

Step 1: Tap the prntscrn button in the upper right of your keyboard. If the print screen button is in a different color than other text, it probably means you have to hold the Fn button (function button) while you hit print screen. The Fn button should be found at the bottom left of the keyboard in between the Windows key and Ctrl.

Step 2: Open Microsoft Paint. In Windows 7/Windows 8 it can be found by typing Paint in the search box, while in XP you will have to go to Start>All Programs>Accesories>Paint

Step 3: When Paint opens click the paste button at the top of the screen, or hold ctrl and then hit the v key. (Key shortcut for paste).

Step 4: Make any edits such as cropping the screenshot, and then hit the save button. Save it in the location and format you want.

OCZ Vector HDTune speed test vs 5400 rpm Hard Drive

This video shows a HDTune Read test for 3 different drives. An OCZ Vector 256 GB drive, a Seagate 1TB (ST1000LM024), and a 32 GB Samsung PM830 MSATA solid state drive. The drives are all in a Dell Inspiron 17R SE (8 GB ram, Nvidia 650m, Core i7 3610 QM).

The average read speeds and access times:
Seagate 1TB HDD: 85.5 MB/s 19.0ms
Samsung 32GB SSD: 166.7 MB/s .117 ms
OCZ Vector 256GB: 274.6 MB/s .131 ms

The SSD’s both destroyed the Spinning Hard drives in the test, as shown in the video. Both are incredible advantage over the spinning hard drives, especially as time went on.

My boot time with the Seagate 1TB was around 2 minutes, while with the OCZ Vector it was less than 10 seconds. I never used the 32 GB MSATA as a boot drive, but I used it to hold a virtual machine, and that booted in 20 seconds on the solid state versus about 40 seconds on the spinning hard drive (it was Windows 8, which does boot faster than Windows 7)

The OCZ Vector can be purchased in two sizes, the OCZ Vector 512 GB and the Vector 256 GB. I purchased my 256 Gigabyte Vector for $240.98 from Newegg. This came with a free copy of Far Cry 3 (you have to download Ubisoft Uplay to download the game, which kind of sucks, but it does work).
